But I never had a caramel cream puff before today. And now that I have, I can die at the business end of a liposuction tube. The pastry was so good that I am willing to make a huge lifestyle change so I can eat here. I am willing to get off my lazy, Asian, female behind, throw away all the excuses and just run around the park.
Cass J. Pretty darn good! I have no control, no control. While in Japantown, I remembered this place was close by, so I made my way over for some treats. Upon walking in, I see the breakfast treats, scones, quiche, croissants, in the front window display. But it was the dessert pastry window on the right side of the entrance that always makes my mouth water. Everything looked so y u m m y, I tried to limit myself, but wanted to get a good overall idea of how the pastries are.
The custard inside the puff was creamy and sweet, and perfect. But it was the hardened caramel on top of the puff that really made it something that I never ever had before. Puff was light and airy.
Drizzled nicely with powered sugar. The crust was light, flakey, custard in the middle, and layered with a good variety of fruits. Tarts were also in oval shape as opposed to the typical round tart.
The worker was a nice older Asian lady, but she was a bit odd when I was looking at all of the goodies. She kept following me from counter to counter. I thought that was a little awkward. I felt like I was being rushed, and somewhat felt obligated to order quickly since she was standing over me. But overall, the pastries were delish.
Alicia C. He is like one of those French caricatures come to life. Honore cake. Perhaps because they freeze their pastries. I have been on the hunt for a new St. Honore cake, but is hard to find something that measures up to nostalgia— until now. The custard was the perfect consistency, thick but silken. The exterior of each puff was crisp with burnished honey.
Whipped cream was the mortar that held the lovely tower together. I was still eating cake for breakfast two days afterwards. Candice B. With the red and yellow sign, I thought it was a Wells Fargo branch. As numerous Unilocal reviews warned, the shop only has two tables.
We were fortunate enough to arrive when no one was around. The shop looked quite large and empty with just one monsieur behind the counter. I have never been a huge fan of puff pastries like mille feuille, but after reading so many flowing reviews on it, I had to give it a try. It was delicious! What is the difference between a mille feuille and a Napoleon? You might wonder if you were curious and has time to kill like me.
They are the same thing! Most countries call this pastry Napoleon, while the French call it mille feuille thousand sheets and only the almond filling ones are called Napoleon. Well, Napoleons actually came from Napolitan as in from Naples, It.
Anyhow, Patisserie Delanghe is a nice little place, not too much ambiance, but my aunt and mom really enjoyed their desserts and coffee, hence, 4 stars. Lisa K. I tried a croissant, napoleon, raspberry crunch or crisp I forget the exact name , eclairs, and their bread pudding.
The croissant was quite good — flaky and light without being dried out. The most distinctive thing was the amount of spice in it, maybe nutmeg? The raspberry thing seemed a bit of a waste to me — it was raspberry jam which was good layered between two very thin layers of flaky crust — too thin, in my opinion, such that the whole thing tended to shatter upon impact.
There are also lots of fancier desserts rather than breakfast type items. Justin C. The only place in town where I can get decent mille feuilles. Go early. They are often sold out if you show up too late in the day. Burrito M. I just want to take some time to break down the princess cake, which is THE most delicious item in the whole bakery. The vanilla cake is light, moist and delicious. The marzipan is soft, delicate, just the perfect amount of sweet, and the almond flavor is really unique and delicious.
There is just enough raspberry jam in the filling to compliment the marzipan perfectly. There is just enough fresh cream in the filling to offset the raspberry jam. I give this cake a perfect I went in thinking I would hate it due to the marzipan. I was really pleasantly surprised. When I have ordered by piece, it has always been really fresh.
Once I ordered the whole cake for a Birthday party and it was slightly stale. Note: all of the items are great, but I had to focus on my fave!!! Katherine P. A neighborhood gem! My friend and I stumbled in here on a whim this Saturday, and we were not disappointed. We ordered the hazelnut croissant, the vegetable quiche, and the chocolate cake with white frosting and strawberries on top. We then proceeded to sit outside on a bench across the street like little kids and gobble up the goodies.
Flaky, buttery, with a sweet hazelnut center. The chocolate cake was chocolately but not too sweet, and had just the right amount of frosting, moistness, and strawberries. My friend loved her quiche and downed it in a minute instead of saving it for later like she planned.
My only minor complaint is that the store was apparently closed when we walked in, but we had no idea since there were still customers inside and the door was wide open. Also, we asked for an extra fork and they said they were out. Jean K. An old school French pastry shop that duh!
I highly recommend the Princess cake traditional Swedish. Very light and yummy, and pretty authentic as well. If you like marzipan you definitely need to try this. The only downside is that if you want to eat here, there are only 2 tables. However, the guy who runs the place is very pleasant.
